Essence Carson Re-Signs With Los Angeles Sparks

LOS ANGELES – Former Scarlet Knight and 2016 WNBA Champion Essence Carson has re-signed with the Los Angeles Sparks, it was announced by the team on Tuesday.
Carson will begin her 10th season in the WNBA this summer and second on the Sparks roster. One of 19 Scarlet Knights to be drafted into the WNBA and the fourth former Scarlet Knight to earn a WNBA championship, she was a first round selection with the seventh pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft by the New York Liberty. Carson has averaged 7.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists during her career.
During last season’s championship run with the Sparks, Carson averaged 6.0 points and 2.4 rebounds per game during the finals against the defending champion Minnesota Lynx.
Prior to joining the Sparks, Carson helped lead the Liberty to four postseason appearances during her eight seasons in New York, including three trips to the Eastern Conference Finals.
Carson is spending the WNBA offseason with Yakin Gogu Universitesi B.G.D. in Turkey where she is coming off the bench to average 11.7 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. The squad is currently third in the KBSL standings at 12-5.
A three-time BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, Carson collected 1,262 points and 707 rebounds while "On The Banks" from 2004-2008 having appeared in 133 contests as a Scarlet Knight. The Los Angeles Sparks begin their 2017 season on Saturday, May 13 hosting the Seattle Storm on ESPN.
