Las Vegas - Rutgers tennis delivered a 6-1 victory over Bradley Tuesday afternoon at the Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas. Winners of two straight matches, the Scarlet Knights captured the doubles point and had five wins in singles action to secure the matchup with the Braves.
The win served as RU head coach Hilary Ritchie's first victory over her brother, Matt Tyler, who is the head coach of Bradley.
"It was a great match today as we begin our spring break trip," Ritchie said. "We had strong doubles play and continued that momentum into singles. We did an excellent job of closing out sets."
The Scarlet Knights collected wins in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles for its fast start to the dual. Junior Mingxiu Du and freshman Katherine Muzik won their doubles match 6-1, while senior Farris Cunningham and freshman Jacqueline Cochrane added a 6-2 decision in the No. 3 position. It marked the six doubles victory for Cochrane and Cunningham this season.
RU contributed five singles wins against the Braves, including an impressive 6-4, 6-2 outcome for senior Ksenija Tihomirova in the No. 1 position. Du downed Alejandra de Lasa, 6-2, 6-4, in the No. 2 position, and junior Chloe Lee added a 6-1, 6-2 win over Natalia Barbery in the No. 3 match.
