PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers softball team fell, 7-2 in the series finale to Nebraska on Sunday morning at the RU Softball Complex.

Freshman Nicole Bowman went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Scarlet Knights (10-27, 1-8 Big Ten). Junior Sierra Maddox notched the team's two RBIs. Senior Shayla Sweeney suffered the loss in the circle.

After Nebraska used three hits to generate a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, a sacrifice fly for Maddox in the bottom of the frame cut into the deficit, 2-1.

Sweeney would register three consecutive scoreless frames to keep it a one-run game.

However, the Cornhuskers went on to add three runs in the fifth and two runs in the sixth to push their lead to 7-1.

In the bottom of the sixth, RU used three consecutive hits to add a run. After back-to-back base hits for Bowman and junior Rebecca Hall, Maddox added a double to send home Bowman, bringing the margin to 7-2.

Sophomore Whitney Jones, who entered the circle in the sixth, registered a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the seventh to send the RU offense back out.

Although freshman Anyssa Iliopoulos led off with a hit and classmate Hailey Hoklotubbe followed with a walk, Rutgers was unable to send in another run.

UP NEXT
After its first three home games of the season this weekend, Rutgers hits the road again with a three-game series at Iowa from April 14-16.
