Rutgers gymnastics continues academic success
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Five members of the Rutgers gymnastics program earned a spot on the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches for Women Scholastic All-America team. To be recognized for this honor, student-athletes must carry a grade-point average of 3.50 or better.
Sophomore Eriel Santagado highlighted the group by holding a perfect 4.0 GPA as an evolutionary anthropology major for her second selection in as many years. She joined senior Charly Santagado (philosophy), who earned the High Academic Achiever Award at the RAwards, and junior Libby Groden (visual arts) as fellow honorees to earn both Scholastic All-America and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar status. It was the third career distinction for the latter two, with Groden achieving All-Big Ten honors for her all-around performance during the season as well.
In addition, both senior April Baker (exercise science and sport studies) and junior Makenzey Shank collected Scholastic All-America honors for the first time with GPAs clearing 3.50. The Scarlet Knights have now had 33 NACGC/W Scholastic All-Americans during the six-year tenure of head coach Louis Levine.
This continues the success in the classroom for Rutgers gymnastics, as the program earned a perfect single-year APR score of 1,000 for the fourth-straight year in the latest NCAA report. The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams nationally. The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport.
