Five invitational meets lead into championship season

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 11, 2017) – Rutgers men's cross country announced its 2017 slate of races on Friday. The Scarlet Knights will sharpen up and shave times at five invitational meets through mid-October in preparation of the Big Ten and NCAA Championships later in the fall.
"We have put together a schedule that addresses our needs," said 36th-year head coach Mike Mulqueen. "We have some high quality meets mixed in with good local meets. It gives everyone on our team the chance to compete at a high level with the goal to excel at the Big Ten and NCAA levels."
The Scarlet Knights open the campaign across state boarders on Friday, Sept. 1 at the Lehigh Invitational, which serves as one of two previews of the 2017 NCAA Division I Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships course at Lehigh's Goodman Campus in Bethlehem, Pa. The other falls on Friday, Sept. 29 at Lehigh's famous Paul Short Run.
Fordham University hosts its invitational on Saturday, Sept. 9 at the renowned Van Cortlandt Park in The Bronx, which will play host to two major championships later in the season. The Metropolitan Championships on Oct. 13 and the IC4A Championships on Nov. 18 both take place on the 8,000-meter course at Van Cortlandt Park.
Rutgers rounds out its invitational schedule with dates at Rider (Sept. 15) and Princeton (Oct. 14).
The 2017 Big Ten Championships are set for Sunday, Oct. 29 at Indiana University's Championship Cross Country Course. Championship season continues on Friday, Nov. 10 with the Regional Championships at Lehigh, followed by the NCAA Division I Championships and IC4A Championships taking place on the same day on Saturday, Nov. 18. University of Louisville hosts nationals at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Kentucky.
