
Women's Soccer Ranked No. 21 in 2017 National Preseason Poll

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers women's soccer was ranked No. 21 in 2017 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women National Preseason Ranking, released Thursday evening.
The program has been ranked or received votes in eight of the last nine preseason polls and qualified for five consecutive NCAA Tournaments. The Scarlet Knights are the second-highest Big Ten school in the poll behind No. 19 Minnesota, which captured the 2016 Big Ten Championship.
Two other Big Ten opponents join the ranks with Nebraska sitting at No. 22 and Northwestern at 23. Overall, five of Rutgers 2017 opponents have a spot in the poll, including nonconference foes No. 5 Georgetown and No. 14 UConn.

Rutgers (12-5-6) returns seven starters, including Casey Murphy, who was named the NSCAA Top Collegiate Goalkeeper for 2017. Other key returnees include Nicole Whitley, the 2016 Big Ten Freshman of the Year as well as an All-Big Ten Third Team and Big Ten All-Freshman selection, and Colby Ciarrocca, who finished second on the team with six goals and five assists (17 points). Taylor Aylmer, who registered seven points (2g, 3a), and Amanda Visco, who posted two goals in 23 starts, also return to the pitch.
Rutgers closed 2016 ranked No. 25 in the nation for the third-straight season, advanced to its second consecutive Big Ten Championship, and punched its ticket to a fifth NCAA Tournament in a row.
With 17 returning letterwinners and 11 newcomers, Rutgers hosts two preseason exhibition matches against Hofstra on Aug. 6 and Syracuse on Aug. 12 at Yurcak Field.
The Scarlet Knights open the regular season with five straight home contests, starting with Loyola Marymount on Friday, Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. ET. Season tickets are now on sale and can be purchased by calling 1-866-445-GORU (4678) or clicking here.
