Three Scarlet Knights Finish In Race’s Top 10 Led by Freshman Olympia Martin
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Rutgers women's cross country team opened up the 2017 campaign on Friday evening taking second place at the Lehigh Invitational with three Scarlet Knights finishing among the top 10.
Freshman Olympia Martin made her Scarlet Knight debut and was RU's top finisher at 22:16.48.
Two returning sophomore Scarlet Knights followed in eighth and ninth place respectively, both registering new personal bests. Nadia Saponara claimed the eighth spot with a time of 22:16.68 with Emma Bergman right behind in ninth with a finish line time of 22:23.61.
Also scoring for Rutgers were freshman Kiera Nealon in 16th in 22:44.66 and junior Genevieve Cickavage in 16th in 22:57.01.
"We were pleased with the way they raced," said head coach James Robinson. "The first competition is a gauge to see where the fitness level is to begin the season. We'll come back to this course two more times, so this is an introduction."
The Rutgers women's cross country team returns to racing on Sept. 22 in the Coast-To-Coast Battle in Beantown hosted by Boston College.
