Final Results
MADISON, WIS. – Senior captain Toks Pedro finished tied for 10th with a four-under-par 212 (69-71-72) as Rutgers men's golf closed out play at the Badger Invitational Tuesday afternoon in Madison, Wisconsin.
A 2017 Preseason All-Big Ten selection, Pedro was minus four in par four scoring and finished tied for seventh with 14 birdies during the three-round event.
"It was a good start to his senior year for Toks," said head coach Rob Shutte. "It was good for him to start the season with a top-10 finish while he was also able to identify aspects of his game he still needs to work on. He had many positive things to draw upon, especially for a three-round tournament."
The Scarlet Knights placed 13th as a team with a 25-over-par 889 scorecard (298-299-292) at the University Ridge Golf Couse. RU produced a four-over-par 292 in the final round of play on Tuesday, its best team total of the tournament. Three rookies – Christopher Gotterup, Putt Sridama and Oliver Whatley – made their collegiate debuts during the invite.
"While we wanted to produce a better finish, it was good to see that our strongest round of play came in the final round, demonstrating that we progressed as play went on," Shutte said. "We also had three freshmen appear for us, and all three had productive days out there."
Texas A&M captured the team title with a 25-under-par 839 (278-284-279), while Kansas (845: 288-280-277) and Marquette (847: 289-277-281) rounded out the top-three totals.
Sophomore Tony Jiang produced the best 18-hole score on Tuesday for Rutgers, as he finished with a one-under-par 71. Jiang contributed three birdies and an eagle on the fourth to close out play tied for 62nd (225: 79-75-71).
Whatley added his best round of the invite on his final day with a three-over-par 75, as he finished tied for 77th in the field (79-76-75). Whatley had three birdies and 10 pars in his third round.
Senior captain Matt Holuta closed out his tournament in 84th (232: 77-78-77). As an individual, Sridama finished tied for 75th (229: 76-80-73), as he added 15 pars and a birdie to card a one-under-par 73 in his last round.
Rutgers continues its fall season when it competes in the Janney Invitational Sept. 18-19 in Richmond, Virginia.
