PISCATAWAY – Women's golf takes flight for the other Manhattan to compete in the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational, hosted by Kansas State at the Colbert Hills Golf Course, Sept. 17-19. The 54-hole tournament features nine teams and 51 players on the par 72, 6,235-yard course.
Seniors Emily Mills and Tatum Jackson, redshirt junior Ashleigh Greenham, sophomore Carrie-Ann Lee and freshman Harriet Allsebrook comprise the competing five for the Scarlet Knights.
Rutgers is coming off a third place finish at last weekend's Rutgers Invitational to begin its fall season. Greenham finished tied for second in the 65-player field with a 224 (77-76-71) to pace five Scarlet Knights among the top 15.
"We are excited about the tournament after the promise that we showed at our home Invitational," said head coach Kari Williams. "We will likely be playing around thunderstorms all weekend, but these are scenarios that we prepare for, both physically and mentally. We've had a good week of practice, spending a lot of time out on the course working on different types of shots and situations. I look to see some low rounds from our team this week."
The host Wildcats, Kansas, Tulsa, Arkansas State, Central Arkansas, Georgia Southern, North Texas and Arkansas-Little Rock join the Scarlet Knights in the annual event that dates back to 1994.
"The field will be very competitive and a great test for our program," Williams added.
Colbert Hills has been ranked the No. 1 public golf course in Kansas and a Top 15 collegiate golf course nationally. The course hosted the 2002 Big 12 Women's Golf Championship, 2003 NCAA Men's Central Regional Championship and the 2005 Kansas Amateur.
After a practice round on Saturday, tee times will take place on Sunday and Monday morning, before a shotgun start for the final round on Tuesday. Live scoring is available via Golfstat.
