PISCATAWAY, N.J. – A Buckeye penalty kick was the lone score in the Rutgers men's soccer team's 1-0 loss to Ohio State on Sunday afternoon at Yurcak Field.

The scoreless stalemate came to an end with Abdi Mohamed reaching the back left of the net from the penalty mark in the 78^th minute.

Ohio State (6-1-0, 3-0-0 Big Ten), who entered the game ranked first in the country in shutout percentage, tied its program record for consecutive shutouts having made five-straight.

Miles Hackett led Rutgers (1-5-1. 0-3-0 Big Ten) with four shots, including a diving header late in the second half off a cross from Ryan Peterson at the center of net that was blocked to keep the Scarlet Knights off the scoreboard.

The Rutgers defense came away with a big stop in the 66^th minute. As Mohamed put the restart along the far side of the box into play, Niall Logue redirected the clear toward goal. Scarlet Knight keeper Rafael Pereira interrupted the potential header by Hunter Roberston. OSU's Brady Blackwell collected the loose ball in front of the duo with Pereira making the stop. Blackwell once again collected the ball with a shot passing the left side of Pereira, but Brian Hawkins swooped in to make the clear and keep the game scoreless.

Pereira collected five saves in the loss. His counterpart, Parker Siegfried, made two stops for the Buckeyes.

"It's just little things, little decisions, the little mistakes that compound our problems," said head coach Dan Donigan. "They fought hard, battled hard and we just have to stay head-strong, stay mentally focused and continue to work. We've got a one day turnaround now before we play Canisius on Tuesday. We know we can beat these teams. We're right there. There's still a lot of season left and five more conference games to play. There are still opportunities for us to feel good moving forward."
