Nine harriers record fastest 8K of the season at Lehigh’s Goodman Campus course
BETHLEHEM, Pa. (Sept. 29, 2017) – Six Scarlet Knights posted personal records in the 8,000-meter run at the Paul Short Run on Friday morning, as Rutgers cross country placed 23rd of 40 teams in the College Gold division.
Rutgers' seven scorers totaled 633 points in a massive field, which included 359 runners from across the nation. In a preview of the 2017 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships, which will also be held at Lehigh's Goodman Campus on Nov. 10, Georgetown was the top Mid-Atlantic team in second, Penn was fourth, Navy was fifth, Villanova placed 14th, Lehigh came in 20th and La Salle was 26th.
Nine out of the 10 RU harriers turned in their top 8K time of the 2017 season.
Junior Dom Munson was the first Rutgers runner across the line by a hair in front of senior Luke Wiley. Both teammates clocked official times of 24:49, but Munson edged Wiley's personal record time of 24:49 by a hair. The Scarlet Knights colleagues finished in 95th and 96th overall.
Sophomore Cole Pschunder was next for RU in 114th with a personal record time of 24:55, followed by another personal best time in junior Conor Murphy's 159th place mark of 25:12.
Senior Alexander Livernois placed 178th in front of freshman Patrick Walsh in 250th with a personal record time of 25:42. Senior Trent Brinkofski rounded out Rutgers seven point scorers with a 309th place time of 26:14.
Freshman Billy Hill (26:29) and sophomore Andrew Comito (26:29) finished virtually at the same time with near-matching personal records in the 8K at the Paul Short Run.
The Scarlet Knights take another week off to prepare for one of the biggest meets of the season, the Metropolitan Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in The Bronx on Friday, Oct. 13.
