SAMMAMISH, Wash. – Women's golf placed fifth with a 902 (300-298-304) total at the 12-team Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational, played Tuesday and Wednesday at Sahalee Country Club. Three Scarlet Knights finished among the top 20 in the 68-player field to help RU place ahead of Georgetown, BYU, San Francisco, Long Beach State, Iowa, Seattle and Hawaii.
"We had a tougher day out on the course, but fought back at the end to pick up a few strokes and hold our position on the leaderboard," said head coach Kari Williams. "It was a good tournament for Carrie-Ann (Lee) and a big confidence boost for Harriet (Allsebrook) to shoot low in the final round. This field was well-ranked and we did pretty well competing with some of the best."
Harriet Allsebrook (76-76-70) and Carrie-Ann Lee (73-73-76) both tied for 12th with 222 totals. Allsebrook's final round 70 signaled a collegiate-best, tied for the second-best round of the day, and helped the sophomore improve a tournament-best 20 positions. Lee's minus two on par threes tied for second among competitors, while the junior's nine birdies ranked tied for sixth.
"It was a challenging round today, with the course playing tough and a handful of pins tucked tight," said Allsebrook. "I did a good job of keeping the ball in play and was able to hole a few putts out there. It translated into my personal best round and I feel great heading into the last stretch of our season."
Freshman Maeve Rossi, playing in first position for the fourth time in as many events, tied for 19th with a 226 (74-74-78). She was minus one on par fives with seven birdies.
Graduate co-captain Ashleigh Greenham and junior co-captain Ana Cortes completed the team scorecard. Greenham tied for 38th with a 232 (77-75-80), while Cortes carded a 238 (79-77-82) to place 55th. Greenham registered 30 pars and Cortes was even on par threes.
Competing individually, sophomore Lori Char finished 63rd with a 246 (83-84-79) on the par 72, 6,014-yard course that hosted the 1998 PGA Championship.
Host and No. 16-ranked Washington won the Invitational with a five-under 859 (286-284-289), 24 strokes ahead of second place Oregon State. Three Huskies tied for third or better, including champion Sarah Rhee, who carded an eight under par 208 (71-67-70).
The Scarlet Knights conclude their fall campaign at the Lady Blue Hen Invitational, Oct. 20-21, in Rehoboth Beach, Del.
