Women’s Golf to Conclude Fall Campaign in Rehoboth Beach
Oct 19 | Women's Golf
PISCATAWAY – Women's golf travels to Rehoboth Beach (Del.) for the 12-team Lady Blue Hen Invitational at Rehoboth Beach Country Club on Saturday and Sunday. The Scarlet Knights enter their final event of the fall campaign looking to improve upon their program-record, 82 Golfstat national ranking.
Freshman Maeve Rossi, sophomore Harriet Allsebrook, junior Carrie-Ann Lee, graduate co-captain Ashleigh Greenham and sophomore Lori Char comprise the starting five for Rutgers on the par 71, 5,932-yard course. Junior co-captain Ana Cortes will compete individually.
Rossi will play in first position for the fifth time in as many events. The rookie has shot par or better five times over 12 rounds this fall. The Rutgers' record for par or better rounds in a season was set by Emily Mills, who achieved it seven times over 30 rounds in 2016-17.
The Scarlet Knights will be joined by host Delaware, Bucknell, Columbia, Georgetown, High Point, James Madison, Penn, Quinnipiac, Seton Hall, Towson and Western Michigan.
Rutgers last competed at the Lady Blue Hen in October 2016, placing fifth with a 944 (324-301-319) total. Greenham paced the Scarlet Knights in Rehoboth, carding a 228 (80-73-75) to finish tied for second in the 60-player field.
Rehoboth Beach Country Club was the first golf course in Delaware to receive the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary designation. Located in the inland bay region, the course offers sculpted greens and fairways, challenging bunkers and ponds, and spectacular views. Its proximity to the Rehoboth Bay provides a variety of changing winds and weather conditions which influence and enhance the experience.
Under the leadership of head coach Kari Williams, Rutgers is coming off a fifth place finish with a 902 (300-298-304) total at the 12-team Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in Washington, Oct. 9-10. Three Scarlet Knights finished among the top 20 in the 68-player field to help RU place ahead of Georgetown, BYU, San Francisco, Long Beach State, Iowa, Seattle and Hawaii.
Thirty-six holes are scheduled for day one, with an additional 18 slated for Sunday. Live results will be available via Golfstat.
