Women’s Golf Concludes Fall with 6th Place Finish at Lady Blue Hen
Oct 21 | Women's Golf
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – Women's golf placed sixth with a 911 (296-302-313) total at the 12-team Lady Blue Hen Invitational, played Saturday and Sunday at Rehoboth Beach Country Club. Graduate Ashleigh Greenham paced the Scarlet Knights in the final event of their fall campaign, carding a 223 (74-77-72) to tie for fifth in the 71-player field.
Greenham's final round 72 was the tournament's best on Sunday, as temperatures in the low 50's and 20-plus mph winds made play challenging. The co-captain concluded the Invitational even on par fives and with seven birdies to earn the fifth top five finish of her Rutgers career.
"Conditions were difficult out there today," said head coach Kari Williams. "We had hoped to move up the leaderboard, but didn't have the scores to do so. Ash's round today was key for us, and it was great to see her bounce back. Carrie-Ann fought hard all weekend for us, getting up and down to save par often. We head into the off-season with a few areas to improve on for the spring."
Junior Carrie-Ann Lee and freshman Maeve Rossi also placed among the top 25 on the par 71, 5,932-yard course. Lee tied for 15th with a 226 (76-73-77) and Rossi tied for 23rd with a 229 (72-76-81). Lee tallied a tournament-best 38 pars and Rossi had six birdies.
Sophomores Harriet Allsebrook, and Lori Char completed the Scarlet Knights' scorecard. Allsebrook tied for 35th with a 233 (74-76-83) and Char tied for 55th with a 243 (76-77-90).
Junior co-captain Ana Cortes, competing individually, tied for 25th with a 239 (75-72-83).
Fourth after the opening round, Rutgers dropped to seventh in the standings after 36 holes, but improved one position on Sunday. The Scarlet Knights finished four strokes out of fourth place and placed ahead of Bucknell, James Madison, Quinnipiac, Towson, Colombia and Western Michigan.
Seton Hall won the Invitational with an 890 (287-293-310), besting tournament host Delaware by three strokes. SHU's Elizabeth Win captured individual medalist honors via a 216 (69-74-73) effort.
Rutgers' spring season officially begins at the Lake Oconee Invitational hosted by Mercer, Feb. 16-17, in Greensboro, Ga.
