Murphy Named Big Ten Sportsmanship Award Honoree
Oct 30 | Men's Cross Country
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Senior Conor Murphy was named the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree for Rutgers men's cross country, the conference announced Tuesday.
At the Big Ten Championships on Sunday, Murphy posted a season-best time of 26:13.9 in the race. Earlier in the year, the Millstone, New Jersey, native paced the Scarlet Knights at the Fordham Fiasco with a Top 10 finish, crossing the line ninth at the 26:34.40 mark.
Off the track, Murphy has collected Academic All-Big Ten honors and USTFCCCA All-Academic accolades during his career. The senior will graduate from Rutgers with a degree Human Resource Management.
The Big Ten Conference office recognizes students from each team as Sportsmanship Award Honorees. The students chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, the students must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
