Swim & Dive Enters Justin Jennings Memorial Invite at Colgate

Full team in action for the first time this season
HAMILTON, N.Y. (Oct. 4, 2018) – Rutgers swimming and diving begins the 2018-19 season in earnest on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 5-6 at the Justin Jennings Memorial Invitational hosted by Colgate at the Lineberry Natatorium. Friday's session begins a 5 p.m., with a 9 a.m. start scheduled for Saturday.
The Scarlet Knights will face off against the host Raiders, along with UMass-Amherst, St. Bonaventure and Le Moyne College, in a championship scoring format with 20 points available for individual event winners and 40 for relay victories.
"The whole team is excited about the opportunity to swim fast," said head coach Jon Maccoll. "We have many process goals for this meet. We'll be focusing on race strategies, stroke rates and technique changes."

Rutgers hosts its annual Alumni Meet on Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Rutgers Aquatic Center. The Scarlet Knights return to competition on Friday, Oct. 26 for a Big Ten dual meet at Michigan State.

- Rutgers opened the 2018-19 season in non-traditional fashion with a seventh place team finish at the CSCAA Open Water National Championships on Saturday morning in Lone Star Lake, bring five swimmers to the championship race.
- Junior Francesca Bertotto placed 10th out of the 69 finishers in the 5,000-meter (3.1 mile) open water swim, stopping the clock at 1:03:27.23. Bertotto, Rutgers' 500-yard freestyle record holder, finished just 11 seconds off the national champion pace.
- Rutgers sent two swimmers to NCAA's in back-to-back years for the first time since 2007 and 2008.
- Senior butterflier Francesca Stoppa has made the NCAA Championships in each of the last two years. Senior backstroker Vera Koprivova qualified in 2017. Bertotto won the 2018 ECAC championship in the 500-yard freestyle.
- Bertotto, Stoppa, Koprivova and junior Federico Greco all scored for the Scarlet Knights by making the finals at the 2018 Big Ten Championships.
- During the offseason, the Scarlet Knights' duo from Czech Republic – Koprivova and freshman Terka Grusova – scored high finishes at their country's national championship. The teammates and countrywomen finished 1-2 with Grusova winning the national title in the 100-meter backstroke over the summer.
- Rutgers roster will be represented by swimmers and divers from the United States, Italy, Czech Republic, Canada, South Africa and New Zealand.
- Eight freshmen swimmers are set to make their collegiate debuts in the pool.
- Senior Rachel Byrne qualified for the NCAA Championships during her junior season and scored for the Scarlet Knights at the Big Ten Championships.
- Senior Marin Bloise and sophomore Lauren Boone return for head diving coach Frederick Woodruff, while freshmen Megan Demeo, Jenna Douglass and Marina Wilkins are set to make their collegiate debuts at Colgate.
