Jordan Hall Scores Both Scarlet Knight Goals in 4-2 Loss To Badgers

MADISON, WISC. – Junior forward Jordan Hall scored twice for the Scarlet Knights in the Rutgers men's soccer team's 4-2 setback at Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon at a rainy McClimon Soccer Complex.

The Badgers were receiving votes in this week's United Soccer Coaches Poll following a 1-0 upset of No. 5 Michigan State in overtime last Sunday.

For Hall, it was his second multiple goal scoring game for the Scarlet Knights as he continues to lead all Big Ten scorers with nine goals on the season.

Wisconsin (6-4-2, 3-1-0 Big Ten) went up 1-0 in the sixth minute with Robin Olofsson tapping in a header from the left post by Mitch Guitar at the goal line and took a two-goal lead when a Noah Melick attempt from 25 yards found the back of the Scarlet Knight net in the 28^th minute.

Five minutes after the Badgers went up 2-0, Rutgers (2-8-1, 1-4-0 Big Ten) halved its deficit on the first of Hall's two tallies. Redshirt senior Miles Hackett controlled a pass at the top of the 18 to feed Hall, who found the opening and fired from 20 yards out with this right foot into the left post.

The Badgers, however, added two more scores early in the second half from Melick in the 50^th minute and Andrew Akindele in the 53^rd minute.

Hall put away his second goal of the game and ninth of the season in the 84^th minute catching the Badger defense off-guard on a strike from 24 yards out.

"We didn't take care of the restart situations as much as we needed to and that was a big part of the difference in the game," said head coach Dan Donigan. "Both their first half goals came off set pieces and we knew they were very good on set pieces. We played much better late in the first half, but didn't carry the momentum over to the start the second half. The first two goals of the second half were simple mistakes from us coming out of the back to put ourselves in a hole. These are mistakes that need to be eliminated going forward."

Goalkeeper Rafael Pereira made five saves the Scarlet Knights in the loss. Wisconsin's Dean Cowdroy made three stops in the win.

The Rutgers men's soccer team is back home on Tuesday to host Howard in a nonconference contest at Yurcak Field at 7 p.m.
