Men's Soccer Hosts Howard on Tuesday

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers men's soccer team has two games on the docket this week. Up first for the Scarlet Knights is a nonconference meeting with Howard on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Yurcak Field.

TWO HOME GAME WEEK
The Rutgers men's soccer team has a pair of home games on tap this week with a nonconference clash with Howard on Tuesday night and a Big Ten matchup with Northwestern on Friday night. Both games kickoff at 7 p.m. from Yurcak Field on BTN Plus.
The Scarlet Knights are coming off a 4-2 setback at Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon. The Badgers were receiving votes in last week's United Soccer Coaches Poll following an upset win of then-No. 5 Michigan State the previous week.
Junior forward Jordan Hall scored twice for the Scarlet Knights in the loss, his second multiple scoring effort of the season.
Five minutes after the Badgers went up 2-0, Hall helped RU to halve its deficit as redshirt senior Miles Hackett controlled a pass at the top of the 18 to feed the Manchester, England native, who found the opening and fired from 20 yards out with this right foot into the left post.
Hall put away his second goal of the game and ninth of the season in the 84th minute catching the Badger defense off-guard on a strike from 24 yards out.
ABOUT HOWARD
Howard enters Tuesday night's contest at 1-5-3 overall and is coming off a 2-1 loss to Georgia Southern on Saturday.
The Bison are led by senior forward Victor Guirma with 11 points off of five goals and assist. Howard's second leading scorer, junior midfielder Andres Gomez, has put away three goals and an assist in 2018.
In goal, junior Carlos Caro has started all nine contests with a 1.66 goals against average and .704 save percentage. He has totaled 38 saves on the year.
B1G STATS
With two goals against Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon, junior Jordan Hall has totaled nine goals on the season to lead all Big Ten scorers.
Hall sits in first place ahead of Michigan's Umar Farouk Osman and Indiana's Andrew Gutman with six goals each thru 11 games.
Hall's name is also found a top the league charts in goals per game (0.82), points (19) and points per game (1.73) and second in shots (34) and shots per game (3.09).
Redshirt senior Miles Hackett meanwhile has four assists to his name and is tied for fifth in the league in the category.
IN THE CLASSROOM
The Rutgers men's soccer team was honored with the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2017-18 academic year, it was announced on Thursday by the organization.
The Scarlet Knights have earned the team academic award from the coaches association for the fifth-straight year and in seven of the last eight seasons.
Rutgers men's soccer was one of a total of 773 collegiate soccer teams (289 men, 484 women) who posted a 3.0 or higher grade point average during the 2017-18 academic year.
Both the RU men's and women's soccer teams earned the award, one of 191 schools with both their men's and women's programs recognized.
Also during the 2017-18 academic year, men's soccer placed 10 members on the Big Ten All-Academic Team and four members of the roster earned Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors for achieving a grade point average of 3.7 or higher, including current Scarlet Knights Joe Bruno (electrical engineering), Alex Kaczynski (labor studies & employment relations) and Brian Shushkovsky (finance).
ALUMNI UPDATE
Entering this week, former Scarlet Knight Mitch Taintor has appeared in and started 31 matches for Sacramento Republic FC in 2018 and helped the squad qualify for the USL Playoffs and clinch home field advantage when the postseason begins.
On Saturday, Taintor's squad posted a 2-1 victory over the LA Galaxy II, guaranteeing a top-four finish in the Western Conference and a home playoff berth. The team has one last regular season contest left to play and takes on Las Vegas Lights FC at home on Oct. 13.
