Women’s Golf Fifth Entering Final 18 at Sahalee
Oct 09 | Women's Golf
SAMMAMISH, Wash. – Women's golf is fifth with a 598 (300-298) total after the opening two rounds of the 12-team Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational, played Tuesday at Sahalee Country Club. Junior Carrie-Ann Lee is tied for 8th in the 68-player field with a 146 (73-73) on the par 72, 6,014-yard course that hosted the 1998 PGA Championship.
"I felt comfortable on the course today after a cold and rainy practice round," said Lee. "I drove the ball well, which gave me good angles into the greens. I was able to hit a lot of approach shots tight out there after getting off to a rough start in the second round. We are in a great spot heading into the final 18 and my teammates and I are ready to compete!"
Lee, competing in third position, is minus one on par three holes with seven birdies and 20 pars entering Wednesday's final round. Her performance helped the Scarlet Knights accumulate 22 birdies on day one.
"We had some great stretches of golf today," said Head Coach Kari Williams. "The course is challenging and we handled a few of the tough holes really well. It's easy to think of shots we left out in the course, but the team is excited to have the chance to get back out tomorrow and improve our position on the leaderboard."
Freshman Maeve Rossi, playing first for the fourth time in as many events, joins Lee towards the top of the leaderboard. Tied for 15th with a 148 (74-74), she is minus two on par fives with five birdies and 22 pars.
Sophomore Harriet Allsebrook, graduate co-captain Ashleigh Greenham and junior co-captain Ana Cortes complete the team scorecard. Allsebrook (76-76) and Greenham (77-75) are tied for 32nd with 152 totals. Cortes is tied for 51st after carding a 152 (79-77). Allsebrook and Greenham both had a team-best 23 pars on the initial 36.
Competing individually, sophomore Lori Char is 66th with a 167 (83-84). She is minus one on par threes.
The Scarlet Knights enter the final round just three strokes behind fourth place UC Davis and ahead of San Francisco, BYU, Georgetown, Iowa, Long Beach State, Seattle and Hawaii.
Host and No. 16-ranked Washington is in first place with a six under 570 (286-284), 15 strokes ahead of second place Oregon State. Five Huskies are among the top eight, including tournament leader Sarah Rhee, who carded a six under par 138 (71-67).
The final 18 holes will be contested Wednesday. Live results are available via Golfstat.
