Volleyball Drops Season Finale to No. 3 Minnesota

Season blocks per set record cemented at 2.63

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (Nov. 24, 2018) – Rutgers volleyball concluded the 2018 season on Saturday in the College Ave. Gym with a straight-set loss to No. 3 Minnesota. The match capped a record-breaking season for the Scarlet Knights' blocking unit, which ended the year with a program record 2.63 blocks per set and a program record 300 total blocks.

KNIGHT NOTES
  • Senior outside hitter Sahbria McLetchie finished her career with a 12-kill performance, giving her 1,061 kills during a 107-match career. She also compiled 455 digs and 175 blocks during her time at VCU and Rutgers.

  • Junior Jasmine Stackhouse entered the all-time top ten for blocks at RU earlier in the season and will head into her senior year with 290 total blocks. She had a block against Minnesota to wrap the season total at 120, which is the eighth best blocking season for an individual in program history.
  • Junior libero Karysa Swackenberg picked up 13 digs in the season finale to up her career total to 961, which ranks 10th all-time in Rutgers history.
STANDOUT STATS
  • Freshman Inna Balyko added 28 assists to bring her rookie season total to 1,063.
  • Sophomore right side Kamila Cieslik finished the season strong with six kills and recorded all three of Rutgers' service aces.
THE MOMENTS
  • Set 1 | Minnesota used an early 12-0 run to set the tone for an opening set win.
  • Set 2 | McLetchie bounced two kills and Cieslik served up one of her aces during a 4-1 rally to get within four points at 12-8.
  • Set 3 | Trailing 17-10, Balyko came up with a pancake dig and kept the ball alive to freshman middle Merle Weidt, who set to McLetchie for the kill.
  • Set 3 | Rutgers ran for four straight points late in the match to get within three at 20-17 behind a Cieslik kill, a Balyko joust at the net and two straight aces from Cieslik.
