PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Adding to the five Rutgers football players honored Tuesday, sophomore running back Raheem Blackshear and junior offensive lineman Jonah Jackson both collected honorable mention All-Big Ten status on Wednesday. Jackson was voted on by the media and coaches, while Blackshear earned the nod from the coaches.
Blackshear led the Scarlet Knights with 143 carries, 586 rushing yards, 44 receptions, 367 receiving yards and 1,136 all-purpose yards in 2018. He became the first Rutgers player to pace the offense in both rushing and receiving yards since Albert Smith in 1985. Blackshear scored three rushing touchdowns and two receiving, picking up at least one catch in all 12 games. At Wisconsin, he recorded the most receiving yards in a game by a RU running back in program history with 162.
Jackson was the only junior captain last season, starting 11 games at right guard. He was part of an offensive line unit that ranks second in the Big Ten and 23rd nationally with only 1.33 sacks permitted per game. In the run game, Rutgers totaled 188 rushing yards versus the top statistical defense in the nation (Michigan) and 108, 29.1 more than average, at the nation's top rushing defense (Michigan State).
