PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Redshirt sophomore guard Arella Guirantes was named the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Co-Player of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday by the organization.
The Bellport, New York native captured 16 points, five rebounds, four assists and a career-high five steals in leading Rutgers to a 57-43 non-conference victory over LSU on Saturday. Guirantes scored eight of her 16-points in the second quarter as the Scarlet Knights overcame an eight-point deficit for the victory and improve to 5-0 at home.
Guirantes' defense, which not only helped her log a new benchmark in thefts, helped to keep RU's 10th-straight opponent under its scoring average and a season-low in points for the Tigers.
In the last two games, Guirantes has averaged 17.5 points and in the last four games, she has averaged 12.3 points per contest.
