Women's T/F Preps For Conference Championships at Valentine & Spire Invitationals

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers indoor women's track & field team will split the squad this weekend as the Scarlet Knights gear up for their final competition before the Big Ten Championships. Several sprinters will head to the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio, site of the 2018 Big Ten Championships, for the Spire Institute Invitational, while others will travel to the Valentine's Invitational hosted by Boston University.
LAST TIME OUT:
Rutgers captured the 2018 Metropolitan Indoor Championships behind four individual crowns. Fifth-year senior Bryanna Grant three-peated as the triple jump champion (12.14m/39' 10"), junior transfer Oniesha Clarke earned two titles in the 60m (7.52) and long jump (5.80m9' 0.25"), while freshman Courteney Campbell took first in the high jump (1.65m/5' 5")
SCARLET KNIGHTS TO WATCH
Phyllis Gordon
Junior Phyllis Gordon will test out the Big Ten track in the 400m, 600m and with the 4x400m relay squad at the Spire Invitational. The Neptune, New Jersey native is an All-East performer in the 400m and won titles in the event last indoor season at the UPenn Eight Team Select, Beantown Challenge and Rutgers Invitational. Earlier this season, Gordon earned the 500m title at the Towson Tiger Invitational and more recently took fourth in the 500m and third with the 4x400m relay team at the Met Championships.
Bria Saunders
Senior Bria Saunders will give the upcoming conference championship track a go in the 60m, 200m and with the 4x400m relay team. Saunders is coming off a runner-up performance in the 200m at the Metropolitan Championships. Last season, the Parsippany, New Jersey product was named the ECAC Championship Most Outstanding Performer capturing gold in the 60m and 200m.
Bryanna Grant
Bryanna Grant, the school record holder in the triple jump, will fly down the runway at the Valentine's Invitational fresh off her third-straight Metropolitan indoor title. Grant reached a distance of 12.15m (39' 10") to win the title.
Oniesha Clarke
After first place finishes in the 60m and long jump last week at the Met Championships, Clarke will race in the 200m and take part in the long jump at the Valentine's Invitational. It will be Clarke's first appearance of the season in the 200m.
Courteney Campbell
Courteney Campbell has already logged two high jump titles this season at the Metropolitan Championships and Towson Tiger Invitational. She was also the runner-up at the Terrier Classic the last time the Scarlet Knights appeared in Boston, where she set her best height at 1.75m (5' 8.75").
Nadia Saponara
Sophomore Nadia Saponara will race in the Valentine's Invitational in the 3000m. Last week, Nadia Saponora was the runner-up in the event with a new PR of 10:14.59.She cut nearly 21 seconds off her time from her third place finish in the 3000m earlier in the season at the Red Raider Invitational and nearly 10 seconds off her previous top time set at last year's Colonial Relays.
