
Softball Earns Split on Day Two of Florida Atlantic Tournament

Scarlet Knights pick up win over Pittsburgh to highlight Saturday action in Boca Raton
BOCA RATON, Fla. - Rutgers softball (10-11) earned a split on Day 2 of the Florida Atlantic Tournament, highlighted by a 7-5 victory over Pittsburgh (13-9-1) in its first game on Saturday. The Scarlet Knights also dropped a 4-1 contest to Florida A&M (6-14) during the second day of the tournament.
Game 1: Rutgers 7, Pittsburgh 5
Against Pitt, catcher Sierra Maddox went 3-for-4 with two RBI's and a homerun. Designated player Erin Collins also drove in two runs, while designated hitter Myah Moy went 2-for-4 with a RBI double. Shortstop Jess Hughes and left fielder Hailey Hoklotubbe each crossed the plate twice in the win.
In the circle, junior Whitney Jones worked four innings, allowing just two earned runs, five hits while striking out two for her sixth win of the season.
Rutgers jumped out to an early three-run lead in the first inning, as Moy drove in Hughes with a double to right field. Maddox followed with a single up the middle to bring in right fielder Nicole Bowman, while Collins singled down the left field line to bring Moy home.
Pitt added a run in the top half of the second inning, but Bowman drove in Hoklotubbe with a sacrifice fly to make it a 4-1 game at the end of two innings.
A solo shot to left center in the third from Maddox followed by a RBI groundout by Collins gave RU a 6-1 lead, allowing Jones to exit with a comfortable in line for the win. Bianca Vozenilek finished the last three innings, allowing just one earned run to record the first save of her career.
Game 2: Florida A&M 4, Rutgers 1
In the second game of the afternoon, Rutgers took an early lead in the second courtesy of a RBI single from first basemen Rebecca Hall, who drove in center fielder Nicolette Anico.
With offense limited, FAMU produce two runs in the fourth inning, and used a two-run homerun from Hera Varmah in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win over the Scarlet Knights.
Cambria Keefer suffered the loss against the Rattlers, allowing just one earned run over five and two-thirds innings with a strikeout.
