Jules Heningburg named to Tewaaraton Award Watch List
Mar 02 | Men's Lacrosse
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 15 Rutgers men's lacrosse senior attackman Jules Heningburg was named to the initial watch list for the Tewaaraton Award. The foundation for the award, which annually honors the top college lacrosse player in the United States, released a list of 50 men's candidates Thursday night.
Heningburg, a 2017 All-American, has gotten the 2018 season off to an outstanding start thus far, with 11 goals, 10 assists and 21 points in his first four games. His assist and point totals both lead the Big Ten. He is tied for 3rd in the NCAA in total points and 5th in the NCAA in total assists.
The Maplewood, N.J. native has played 49 career games in a Rutgers uniform, compiling 91 goals and 65 assists for 156 points. A two-time team captain, Heningburg enters this weekend with an active 27 game point-scoring streak, the 12th longest in the nation.
Heningburg is on the Tewaaraton Watch List for the second straight season. It is the fourth consecutive season that Rutgers has had a player on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, with Heningburg (twice) following Scott Bieda (a semifinalist) and Joe Nardella. Also previously recognized were Will Mangan, Justin Pennington, Chris O'Dougherty and Greg Havalchak.
Players not named to the initial lists have several opportunities to play their way into a spot as the season progresses. Watch list additions, if applicable, will be announced on March 22 and April 5. On April 26, the field will be narrowed to 25 men's and 25 women's nominees. Nominees can be players on the watch lists or players not on the watch lists, effectively allowing for a third round of additions.
Five men's and five women's finalists will be announced on May 10 and invited to the 18th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony in Washington, D.C., on May 31.
