
Three Gymnasts Take Stage at NCAA Regionals

Groden, Huang and Shank finish season at Penn State
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Senior Libby Groden, freshman Belle Huang and senior Makenzey Shank wrapped up the season by representing Rutgers gymnastics at the NCAA Regional hosted by Penn State on Saturday. Groden made her fourth appearance at the meet with a 38.025 all-around total, while Huang posted a 38.600 and Shank added a 9.400 on balance beam.
"All three of these young ladies have so much to be proud of," head coach Louis Levine said. "Belle has had an amazing freshman year and she got to end it in the postseason. Micki and Libby have had excellent seasons and got to conclude their careers in the postseason. The two of them have meant so much to Rutgers gymnastics these past four years."
Groden competed for the 48th and final time as Scarlet Knight, becoming the first athlete in program history to qualify four times to NCAA Regionals. She scored best on floor exercise at 9.775, adding a 9.650 on uneven bars, a 9.600 on vault and a 9.000 on balance beam. The three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection was a national semifinalist for the prestigious AAI Award.
Huang earned a spot at the meet yesterday and notched a 9.825 on floor exercise, her seventh consecutive outing with a 9.800 or better on the event. In addition, the rookie collected a 9.625 on balance beam, a 9.600 on uneven bars and a 9.550 on vault. It was her 10th time competing all-around.
For Shank, she recorded a 9.855 Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) on the season to lead Rutgers. She ends her career tied atop the school record book with a 9.925 on balance beam. The Arizona native finished with 39 meets of experience and garnered Academic All-Big Ten status twice.
