PISCATAWAY, N.J. – On Sunday, April 29, Rutgers women's soccer hosted the "Fearless Girl" fundraiser at the Rutgers Recruiting Pavilion on Busch Campus. Teaming up with Broadway star Mandy Gonzalez, the event, inspired by the Fearless Girl statue on Wall Street, was formed to empower and inspire strong, independent and confident young women to dream big and execute on their dreams.
Â
"Rutgers Women's Soccer would like to thank everyone who attended, especially our speakers who made this such a wonderful evening -
Christy Monroy, Janine Beckie, Dr. Janjigian, and Mandy Gonzalez," said assistant coach
Trish DiPaolo. "We know the audience left feeling empowered and inspired and that was the teams goal when putting this event together!"
Â
The speakers at the event included women's soccer senior
Christy Monroy, Sky Blue FC's Janine Beckie, Dr. Yelena Janjigian, Grammy-Winner Gloria Gaynor, and Broadway star Mandy Gonzalez.
Â
Gonzalez is currently starring in the Broadway musical sensation Hamilton as Angelica Schuyler. Gonzalez also starred as Elphaba in the Broadway production of Wicked, for which she was awarded a Broadway.com Award for "Best Replacement."
Additionally, Gonzalez is a Warner Music artist and recently released her debut album, FEARLESS, which debuted at #13 on the iTunes pop charts. She founded the social media movement, #FearlessSquad, which is focused on creating a sense of belongingness, inclusiveness, and positivity in social media. The fundraiser encouraged attendees to join Rutgers women's soccer and Gonzalez to be fearless. Â
