May 04 | Men's Basketball
PISCATAWAY – Head Men's Basketball Coach Steve Pikiell announced today that Caleb McConnell has signed to compete at Rutgers University. The guard joins the Scarlet Knights from the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
"We're very excited to add Caleb McConnell to our family," Pikiell said. "He has great versatility and can play multiple positions. I love his attitude and approach to basketball, as well as his work ethic. He's in the gym all the time. He can really handle and shoot the basketball at an elite level. Caleb comes from a great family and joins us from a winning program at SPIRE Institute, where he played a challenging national schedule. I think his best basketball is ahead of him and he'll be a great addition to our roster."
"With Caleb, you are getting a player with an extremely high skill set who can do a lot on the basketball court," SPIRE Institute head coach Dave Briski said. "He's a very well-rounded athlete. He can shoot the ball from range. He's a great passer. He uses his length well and can really help create for others. Defensively, he really bothers guards with his length and his good anticipation. He's a good help side defender and rebounder.
"He's a high character kid who really fits in to the vision that Coach Pikiell has at Rutgers," Briski continued. "He'll play with a chip on his shoulder and be determined to prove his value on the court."
