Women's Soccer Blanks George Mason in 4-0 Victory

Ali adds two goals, Whiltey registers three assists

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's soccer (3-0-1) registered a 4-0 victory over George Mason (1-2-0) on Sunday afternoon at Yurcak Field. Sophomore forward Amirah Ali led the Scarlet Knights with two goals, while junior midfielder Nicole Whitley recorded a career-high three assists. 
 



QUICK STATS
Three different Scarlet Knights registered goals in the win, including junior forwards Brittany LaPlant and Tiernny Wiltshire. Ali added her first multi-goal performance of the season, tying her career high with two goals. Whitley fueled the offense with three assists to match her career-high as well.

In net, freshman goalkeeper Meagan McClelland posted her second shutout of the season, recording three saves in the victory. 

Overall, RU led GMU in shots, 11-9, and corner kicks, 3-0. 

THE MATCH

LaPlant opened up scoring for the Scarlet Knights in the 12th minute. After Whitley passed it from midfield to Ali in the box, Ali then crossed to LaPlant who netted the goal for a 1-0 RU edge.

Less than a minute later, Wiltshire joined in with a goal of her own, chipping it over the goalkeeper for 2-0 Scarlet Knight lead.  

In the 52nd minute of the match, a George Mason foul set up a Rutgers penalty kick. Ali converted on the attempt to register her third goal of the year and extend the RU lead to 3-0.

Ali didn't stop there. In the 68th minute, the sophomore broke free on the pitch, scoring from inside the box for her second goal of the match and extending the Scarlet Knight advantage to 4-0.
