
Bertotto Top 10 at CSCAA Open Water Championships

Scarlet Knights seventh of 14 teams at the 5,000-meter open water event
LAWRENCE, Kan. (Sept. 22, 2018) – Rutgers swimming and diving opened the 2018-19 season in non-traditional fashion with a seventh place team finish at the CSCAA Open Water National Championships on Saturday morning in Lone Star Lake.
Junior Francesca Bertotto placed 10th out of the 69 finishers in the 5,000-meter (3.1 mile) open water swim, stopping the clock at 1:03:27.23. Bertotto, Rutgers' 500-yard freestyle record holder, finished just 11 seconds off the national champion pace.
With the top three swimmers scoring for each team, the Scarlet Knights totaled 81 points to finish seventh of the 14 participating teams, with lower scores ranked higher. Sophomore Lily Black was next across the line for RU in 33rd place in 1:06:41.12, followed by senior Vera Koprivova's 38th place time of 1:07:13.78.
Junior Alexandra Fabugais-Inaba completed the race in 47th place, in front of freshman Katie Dougherty's 56th place time.
Missouri claimed the team title with three of the top four finishers, including national champion Audrey Guyett.
Rutgers competes in its first dual match of the season at the Colgate Invitational in Hamilton, New York on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 6-7.
