Manchester, England Native Scores Twice in Scarlet Knights' First Big Ten Win of the Year

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Down 2-0 to Ohio State at the half, the Rutgers men's soccer team need only a 43 second span to tie the game up and force overtime where leading scorer Jordan Hall put away the game-winner to give the Scarlet Knights its first Big Ten win of the year in front of the Big Ten Network cameras.

Ohio State (1-7-2, 0-3-1 Big Ten) had a strong first half, outshooting the Scarlet Knights, 7-2, with goals by Devyn Etling in the 17^th minute and Jake Holland putting the Buckeyes up 2-0 in the 35^th minute.

It was a different story, however, for Rutgers (2-6-1, 1-3-0 Big Ten) in the second half.

Hall closed the Scarlet Knight deficit to a goal in the 61^st minute as redshirt senior Miles Hackett played the ball over the Buckeye back line for the Manchester, England native to one-touch the ball past charging Buckeye keeper Parker Siegfried.

With help from the bench, Rutgers made it a tie 2-2 game 43 seconds later. Redshirt senior Kyle Goodwin served the ball from the left side to connect with sophomore Miles Franklyn, both entering the contest following the Scarlet Knights' first goal. Franklyn's initial header was punched away by Siegfried, but the Scarlet Knight was at the goal line to tap the ball into goal.

In overtime, Hall headed in the golden goal off the restart sent in from the left side of the 18 from Thomas DeVizio at the right post.

In goal, senior Rafael Pereira made three stops for the Scarlet Knights, including a late attempt in regulation on a restart by the Buckeye's Brady Blackwell. Siegfried, meanwhile, also made four saves in the loss.

"Give our guys a lot of credit for fighting back," said head coach Dan Donigan. "After a poor first half, I thought the fight they showed in the second half was fantastic. That's what they need to do all the time. The conference is hard enough, but we showed a lot of resilience to do this on the road against a team also fighting to get a footing in the standings. There's still a long way to go. There's still four more conference games left for us and we want to take care of business one by one."

The Rutgers men's soccer team returns to action back home at Yurcak Field hosting Drexel, a team receiving votes in the last week's United Soccer Coaches Poll, on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.

KNIGHT NOTES

Jordan Hall leads the Scarlet Knights with 13 points (6G, 1A). Including his two seasons at Mississippi Gulf Coast College, Hall upped his career total to 127 points (53G, 21A). Sunday's game was his first multi-goal contest for the Scarlet Knights.
Miles Hackett collected his second assist of the 2018 campaign. He currently has 26 points (9G, 8A) for his career.
Thomas DeVizio registered his first collegiate points with the assist on Hall's golden goal. The freshman has started all nine contests on the back line for the Scarlet Knights.
