Women’s Golf Begins Fall Campaign in the Gopher State

PISCATAWAY - Rutgers women's golf opens its season Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 10-11, at the Golden Gopher Invitational at Prestwick Golf Club in Woodbury, MInn. After setting a program-record with a 304.88 scoring average last season, the Scarlet Knights begin their 2018-19 campaign against a highly-competitive 15-team field.
Graduate co-captain Ashleigh Greenham, senior Astrid Aneman, junior co-captain Ana Cortes, junior Carrie-Ann Lee and freshman Maeve Rossi comprise the RU travel squad. Greenham and Lee were recently recognized by the Big Ten Conference as preseason players to watch for the third and second time, respectively.
"This group put in a lot of work on their games this summer and we saw it this week during our practices," said head coach Kari Williams. "We are starting our season with a very competitive event and we look to see how we measure up against some of the nation's top teams."
The field consists of East Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Middle Tennessee State, host Minnesota, Missouri, North Texas, Notre Dame, No. 24 Oklahoma, the Scarlet Knights, San Francisco, San Jose State, South Dakota State and Virginia Tech.
One of the Twin Cities' premier courses, Prestwick Golf Club is a par 72 championship course renovated by Kurt Sandness. Rated as a 4.5 star facility by Golf Digest, it is ranked among the top three public courses in the state.
The Golden Gopher Invitational is the first of five fall tournaments for RU, which begins with two first-time events in the Golden Gopher and Michigan State's Mary Fossum Invitational. The Scarlet Knights conclude the month of September at another Big Ten-hosted tournament, the Nittany Lion Invitational, where Rutgers placed fifth and Lori Char tied for 15th in 2017.
Tee times begin Monday at 7:40 a.m. (CT) off the first and tenth tee with continuous play for 36 holes. Tuesday's final round will begin via a 9:15 a.m. (CT) shotgun start. Live results will be available via Golfstat.
