Scarlet Knights dominate butterfly events, but take first team losses of the season
PRINCETON, N.J. (Jan. 12, 2019) – Senior Francesca Stoppa and the butterfly squad continued their dominance, but the Rutgers swimming and diving team suffered its first dual meet losses of the season by falling to Princeton and Villanova in Princeton's tri-meet on Saturday.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Rutgers travels to Nebraska on Feb. 1-2 for its final tune-up before the Big Ten Championships.

- Stoppa finished her weekend 4-for-4 in winning individual butterfly races. She claimed the 100- and 200-yard events in Saturday's tri-meet, one night after sweeping Princeton on Friday. The Scarlet Knights took the top three spots in the 100 and 200, with freshman Kasja Dymek and junior Federica Greco following Stoppa in the 100. Greco placed second in the 200, with Dymek in third.
- Freshman Terka Grusova edged a Villanova swimmer by 0.19 seconds in the 200-yard backstroke to take first place points.
- Junior Francesca Bertotto remained undefeated in distance freestyle this season with a four-second victory in the 500 on Saturday.
- Grusova missed a backstroke sweep by a blink of the eye, taking second in the 100 by the slimmest of margins – a mere hundredth of a second.
- Freshman Simone Lusby scored points with a fourth place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, turning in her fastest time of the season in the event. She also finished third in the 100.
