Women's Basketball Adds Transfer Alexis Morris

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's basketball head coach C. Vivian Stringer has announced the signing of transfer guard Alexis Morris to the Scarlet Knights roster. A 5-6 guard from Beaumont, Texas, Morris will arrive at Rutgers with three years of eligibility remaining and be able to take the court for the Scarlet Knights in January of 2020.

"Alexis is a great player and her accolades speak for themselves," said Stringer. "She wants to be challenged and has what you can call that 'it' quality and personality. Alexis blended extremely well not only with the young ladies already on the team, but just as important, her style of play fits the mold of a Rutgers guard. I think Alexis will be an outstanding teammate and a hard-working student-athlete both on the court and in the classroom."

Morris arrives "On The Banks" from Baylor, where she averaged 9.4 points, 3.4 assists and 2.9 rebounds as a freshman for a Lady Bears squad that reached the 2018 Sweet 16. A Big 12 All-Freshman Team member, she led Baylor in 3-point field goal percentage shooting at a .462 clip and led all Big 12 freshmen with a .836 free throw percentage. Additionally, she was 10th in the Big 12 in assists (3.4) and seventh in assist/turnover ratio (1.9). Morris also collected 116 assists to tie the Baylor freshman record. Altogether, she appeared in 34 of 35 games, along with eight starts, as a rookie and had 16 double-figure scoring performances, including a career-high 19 points against No. 7/7 Texas in the Big 12 Championship game.

Prior to joining the collegiate ranks, Morris was five-star recruit and the No.6 ranked guard and No. 18 ranked player overall by ESPN Hoopgurlz at Legacy Christian High School. While at Legacy Christian, she was a Jordan Brand Classic, Naismith Trophy and McDonald's All-American leading her teams to four-straight district titles and a Class 3A state championship in 2017. In her senior campaign, she poured in 31.1 point per game, including four 40-point performances and nine 30-point games, along with 6.3 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 4.8 steals per contest. The 2017 Texas Gatorade Player of the Year and four-time Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools 3A Player of the Year totaled 3,369 points during her high school career.

Morris also gained international experience with the 2015 USA Basketball Women's U16 National Team. She helped USA Basketball to the bronze medal at the 2015 FIBA Americas U16 Championship behind 13.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game in five starts.
