Scarlet Knights Log Six Top Eight Performances and Six ECAC Qualifying Marks
BOSTON – The Rutgers women's indoor track and field team garnered six top eight finishes at the Terrier Classic hosted by Boston University on Saturday led by the Scarlet Knights' distance medley relay team with a first place finish.
"The team really had a breakout weekend in terms of results," said head coach James Robinson. "There were six ECAC qualifying marks and eight personal bests set during the competition. The ladies are beginning to round into form and we'll try to continue the weekly improvements next week."
The distance medley relay team of sophomores Kiera Nealon and Olympia Martin and seniors Phyllis Gordon and Jenna Sobieski took first with an ECAC time of 11:50.88.
Senior Oniesha Clarke and freshman Iyanla Kollock both raced in the finals of 60m with Clarke taking third in an ECAC time of 7.64, while Kollock finished fifth in 7.78.
In the 800m, Sobieski captured a ECAC qualifying finish line time of 2:10.28 for a new personal best. She bettered her previous top time of 2:13.02 set at last year's Valentine's Invitational also hosted by Boston University.
Additionally, sophomore Olympia Martin collected an ECAC qualifying time in the 3000m as she clocked in at 9:44.23 for a new PR and the fifth fastest time in the Rutgers record books. Her previous best was 9:54.36 set at the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton during last year's outdoor season.
The high jump saw redshirt junior Rhonda Rogombe and sophomore Courteney Campbell both clear the bar at a ECAC qualifying height of 1.70m (5' 7") to land in third and fourth respectively.
The Rutgers women's track and field team's indoor season continues next week at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on State Island where the Scarlet Knights will look to defend their Metropolitan Championship crown.
