Women’s Golf Earns Second Straight NAGWS Day Team Academic Award
Jan 29 | Women's Golf
PISCATAWAY - Rutgers women's golf has earned its second straight National Girls and Women in Sports (NAGWS) Day Team Academic Award, presented annually by the New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (NJAIAW).
"We are honored to be recognized again by the NJAIAW for our program's success in the classroom," said head coach Kari Williams. "Our student-athletes have committed themselves to being leaders in the classroom, on the golf course, and in the community. I want to thank our dedicated support staff, especially Academic Advisor Gilah Rosenberg, for helping our student-athletes excel academically."
Rosenberg and alumna Christina Paulsen (2016) will attend an event on Sunday, Feb. 3 at Seton Hall University's Richard Regan Recreation and Athletics Center to accept the award on the program's behalf. With a national theme of "Lead Her Forward," the luncheon recognizes the outstanding academic achievements of women's collegiate athletics.
This past fall, the Scarlet Knights posted a 3.844 team grade point average, which included perfect 4.0's by Ashleigh Greenham, Carrie-Ann Lee and Lori Char. All eligible student-athletes made the Dean's List. On the course, women's golf completed the fall with a program-record Golfstat ranking of 86, while carding a program-best 299.80 scoring average.
Rutgers was recently recognized as one of the nation's top 25 programs in academic performance by the WGCA for a second consecutive year. With a school record seven student-athletes named WGCA Division I All-America Scholars, Rutgers maintained a 3.812 grade point average to place third among Division I and first among all Power 5 conference programs. In addition, six women's golfers earned Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors by maintaining grade-point average of 3.7 or higher during the 2017-18 academic year.
Rutgers' spring 2019 season officially begins at the Lake Oconee Invitational hosted by Mercer, Feb. 16-17, in Greensboro, Ga.
