Women's X/C Readies For Metropolitan Championship

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers women's cross country team returns to racing on Friday at the annual Metropolitan Cross Country Championships at Van Cordtlandt Park in the Bronx, New York.

| ABOUT THE MEET |
- The women's 5K race gets underway at 11 a.m.
- Teams in the field include Columbia, Fordham, Manhattan, NJIT, NY Tech, Seton Hall, St. John's and St. Peter's.
- Seniors Nadia Saponara and Lou Mialhe each captured PRs in their last appearance at the Metropolitan Championships. Saponara finished 12th overall with a time of 19:12 and Mialhe placed 24th crossing the finish line in 19:40.

- Rutgers got a preview of the upcoming Big Ten Championship course at the Ohio State Invitational. The 12-team field featured No. 7 Michigan, No. 11 Michigan State, No. 16 Penn State and No. 21 Ohio State from the conference.
- Junior Olympia Martin paced the Scarlet Knights for the seventh-straight race dating back to last season with the top RU finish in 22:30.8
- Also scoring for RU were senior Lou Mialhe (22:59.7), senior Emma Bergman (23:06.2), senior Stephanie Mauer (23:26.0), senior Nadia Saponara (23:44.4) and sophomore Brooke Riedy (23:49.0).
- Three Scarlet Knights captured new 6K PR's including freshman Isabella Godish (23:50.4) and sophomores Chloe Wong (23:52.7) and Kayla Rosario (24:11.0).

- Rutgers won the Metropolitan Championship title in 2014 and 2015 and placed third in 2016 and in its last appearance 2017.
- All seven Scarlet Knight entries in 2017 finished among the top 25 with only 13.4 seconds separating the first and final Scarlet Knights over the finish line with current members Nadia Saponara, Emma Bergman and Olympia Martin leading the pack.
