PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers football (1-6, 0-5) took a 42-7 loss to No. 20 Minnesota (7-0, 4-0) Saturday at SHI Stadium. It was the 86th annual Homecoming game for the Scarlet Knights, a tradition started in 1933.

Redshirt freshman Deion Jennings picked up three tackles-for-loss for RU in his first collegiate start on defense, the first such output for a Scarlet Knight since Quentin Gause at UCF in 2013. Junior Olakunle Fatukasi totaled a career-high 13 stops, while junior Tyshon Fogg had 11 tackles.

On offense, freshman Kay'Ron Adams scored his first career touchdown on a 5-yard run in the fourth quarter. Sophomore Isaih Pacheco rushed for 50 yards, with sophomore Eddie Lewis collecting three receptions after making his first start.

Minnesota broke a scoreless tie on its third drive of the game, using a nine-play drive capped by a 3-yard rushing touchdown by Rodney Smith. The Golden Gophers led 14-0 heading into halftime and added four touchdowns in the second half.

PARTICIPATION
NOTES
  • Minnesota marked the final Big Ten opponent to make their first trip to Rutgers.
  • Gil Greenberg, 97, served as the honorary captain. He is the oldest living Rutgers football letterwinner (1941-42).
  • RU sported long-sleeved jerseys for the occasion, which were part of a collaboration between Rutgers Athletics and adidas. The Primeknit A1 uniforms emulated Rutgers football's tradition and heritage through retro designs, colorways and throwback graphics.
  • The newest members of the Rutgers Athletics Hall of Fame were recognized in a ceremony: the 1919-1920 men's basketball team, the 1981 men's track & field two mile relay team, Todd Frazier (baseball), Fred Gruninger (athletic administrator) and Greg Rinaldi (men's lacrosse).
