PISCATAWAY, N.J. – With the start of the 2019 Fall Semester, the Rutgers office of Leadership Development and Strategic Partnerships continues to make an impact on campus and across the country. The 2019-20 Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) includes a restructure of the executive board with revamped roles and new Scarlet Knight representatives.
"I am really proud of the momentum our student-athlete SAAC leaders have developed over the past year," said Dr. Kristina Navarro, Senior Associate Athletic Director for LDSP. "Energy is high and there is a renewed focus on progress, accountability and results. I have no doubt this group of talented leaders will continue to support our core values of excellence, accountability, respect, integrity and grit."

LDSP unveiled a four-year, credit-based Leadership Academy curriculum in the Spring 2019 semester. The academic curriculum, developed by Dr. Navarro and the LDSP staff in partnership with the Graduate School of Education, presents an intentional holistic program with learning outcomes specifically focused on identity development, career development and leadership development of the student-athlete.
This fall marked the start of the Identity Development of Student-Athletes course, a 10-week course. The course guides first-year students through topics of academic accountability, discipline, overcoming adversity, mental toughness, community & character, personal leadership and family.

This past week the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A) released the official strategic plan.

In addition, Navarro was highlighted by the association for her recent book Implementing Student-Athlete Programming: A Guide for Supporting College Athletes and her collaborative work with Dr. Marissa Nichols (Associate AD for Student-Athlete Development, Cal-Berkeley), Dr. Lisa Rubin (N4A Division Director/Educational Services & Initiatives) and the program assessment committee will help to shape the program standards and assessment blue print used to guide model student-athlete development program practices across NCAA Division I, II and III.
