Game Recap: Field Hockey |

No. 18 Field Hockey Defeats Temple 1-0 on Senior Day

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 18 Rutgers field hockey (10-6, 4-3 Big Ten) finished off its home slate with a victory on a rain-soaked Sunday afternoon, defeating Temple 1-0 on Senior Day. Senior Austyn Cuneo scored the game-winning goal, while senior goalkeeper Amanda Lamb preserved the shutout.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Scarlet Knights controlled play throughout the game, dominating time of possession. RU outshot the Owls 19-1 and had 14 corners to 0 for Temple.

After an earlier goal was overturned, Rutgers finally broke through in the fourth quarter, taking advantage of a corner opportunity. The ball was played to Gracey Butsack on the goalkeeper's right. She sent a pass across to Cuneo, who stickhandled and sent a hard shot home for the only goal of the game.

NOTABLE
- Rutgers honored five seniors in a pregame ceremony: Nikki Santore, Emily Howarth, Amanda Lamb, Austyn Cuneo and Alanna Gollotto
- The Scarlet Knights reached double-digit wins for the second consecutive season.
- Cuneo's seventh goal of the season was a new career-high.
- It was her first game-winning goal of the season and fourth of her career.
- Lamb recorded her second career solo shutout and first since 2016.

QUOTABLE
"We were able to take advantage of that one corner opportunity and score. We knew that we needed a goal and just had to stay composed. We talked about staying composed and making sure that we're keeping possession of the ball. There was definitely a lot of emotions today for the seniors. We're playing for our sisters this year and trying to make this senior year count and make the season last as long as possible.
