Sofia Chichaikina Named Big Ten Freshman Swimmer of the Week

First-Year Scarlet Knight Finished First, Second or Third in Seven Events Last Week
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers swimmer Sofia Chichaikina has been named the Big Ten Swimming Freshman of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Chichaikina finished first, second or third in all seven of her events last week.
Against Iowa, a squad ranked at No. 31 in the CollegeSwimming.com Poll, the Togliatty, Russia native earned victories with the 200 medley relay (1:42.85) and the 50 free (23.64) and was a runner-up with the 400 free relay squad (3:27.24). Additionally, she touched the wall in third in the 100 free (51.94) against the Hawkeyes. The following day against Iowa State, the Scarlet Knight freshman captured a win in the 200 IM (2:07.49) and swam her way to a pair of second place finishes in the 50 free (23.77) & 100 free (51.73).
Chichaikina is the first Rutgers swimmer to win a Big Ten Weekly Award since Addison Walkowiak on Jan. 20, 2015.
The Rutgers women's swimming & diving team is back home at Rutgers Aquatics Center on Friday, Nov. 15 to host Princeton at 5 p.m. in the battle for the Cannon Trophy.
