Northwestern Thwarts Volleyball's Chance at First B1G Series Sweep

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern thwarted Rutgers women's volleyball chance at its first Big Ten season series victory with a 3-0 win over the Scarlet Knights on Friday night at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
While the Scarlet Knights won the first meeting at home in five sets back on Oct. 27, the Wildcats won the rematch by set scores of 25-14, 25-22, 25-10.
The Scarlet Knights travel to No. 25 Illinois for an 8 p.m. (ET) match on Saturday, Nov. 16.

| STANDOUT STATS |
- Both sophomore outside hitters Tali Marmen and Anastasiia Maksimova led with six kills apiece, with Marmen notching a game-high three service aces.
- Second-year setter Inna Balyko logged 23 assists and three block assists.
- Senior libero Karysa Swackenberg led RU for a 16th time this season in digs with 16.
| KEY MOMENTS |
- Set 1 (14-25) | Errors proved costly for the Scarlet Knights with the nine miscues leading to the Wildcats win in the opening frame. Northwestern rattled off four consecutive points for a 14-8 edge before the run was stopped by an Anstasiia Maksimova swing. The Wildcats, however, would go on to lead by as many as eight.
- Set 2 (22-25) | Northwestern captured the first two points, but Tali Marmen helped Rutgers strike back with the kill and back-to-back aces marking the first of four lead changes. The Wildcats took a 13-10 edge, but the Scarlet Knights bounced to tie the set up at 17-17. In all, the set endured 11 ties culminating with a Jasmine Stackhouse kill to knot the score at 22-22. Northwestern, however, would close out the set with three-straight points.
- Set 3 (10-25) | The Wildcats jumped out in front on a 6-1 and continued to grow its lead throughout the stanza resulting in the straight-set win.
| KNIGHT NOTES |
- Jasmine Stackhouse, Rutgers all-time leading block assists, moved into a tie for fourth place on the all-time total blocks leaders list. Her two block assists against the Wildcats brings her block total to 370 to tie Mikaela Matthews (2012-16). She needs eight more to surpass Mary Kiriakou (1998-01) for third on the list.
