Korsak Named a Ray Guy Award Semifinalist
Nov 18 | Football
Rutgers punter has pinned 28 attempts inside the 20 so far in 2019
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Junior Adam Korsak of the Rutgers football team is a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award, the Augusta Sports Council announced Monday. The Aussie previously won the Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week three times in 2019.
Korsak is now one of 10 punters from the across the country that are part of a vote to narrow to three finalists. The final watch list included 78 punters.
A national voting body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) sports information directors, national media and previous Ray Guy Award winners will decide the three award finalists who will be announced on Nov. 25. Voters will then vote again to determine the winner who will be announced live on Dec. 12 at The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Ray Guy Award will provide one additional vote as determined by football fans. The Fan Vote will be located on the Ray Guy Award website and is equivalent to one national selection committee member's vote. The vote will be included for the selection of the finalists and the winner.
In his second season playing football, Korsak has helped Rutgers lead the Big Ten and rank 14th nationally with a net punt of 42 yards per attempt. The RU net punt school record of 40.1 yards was set last season in his rookie campaign. He has pinned 28 punts inside the 20, 16 inside the 10 and eight inside the 5 with only one touchback this year. Korsak has forced 29 fair catches with 46-of-63 punts not returned.
In addition, Korsak has averaged 43.9 yards per punt this year to rank third in the conference and threaten Ryan Anderson's school standard of 44.4 established in 2017. He has 10 boots of at least 50 yards and three of 60 with a long of 69 at Iowa that settled at the 1. In that Iowa performance, he averaged 47.6 yards on 10 attempts and finished with a net of 46.5. The Aussie had seven punts downed inside the 20, five inside the 10 and four inside the 5 to garner the Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week for the first time.
Then versus Boston College, Korsak landed all five attempts inside the 20 to win the weekly award once again. He averaged 47.3 yards with a long of 68 on 10 attempts at Indiana, including pinning punts at the 1, 2 and 3-yard lines, to pick up his third national recognition.
Korsak was named honorable mention All-Big Ten by the coaches and media in 2018 and set the school record with a 79-yard punt versus Northwestern.
