PISCATAWAY, N.J. – 2019 national champions
Anthony Ashnault and
Nick Suriano from Rutgers wrestling will be among several current and former student-athletes from across the country who will be honored by President Donald Trump at the White House as part of the annual NCAA Collegiate National Champions Day on Friday, Nov. 22 in Washington, D.C. The event is set to recognize NCAA national champions from the 2018-19 season.
Ashnault produced one of the most storied careers in program history, as he finished his time "On the Banks" as a four-time All-American, three-time Big Ten Conference champion and RU's all-time wins leader with 123 career victories. In his final season, the 2019 Hodge Trophy finalist went 32-0, secured the 2019 Big Ten title and closed his collegiate career with a national title at 149 pounds.
Suriano is coming off an historic junior season, as the Paramus native finished 29-3 en route to both a Big Ten title and national championship at 133 pounds. At nationals, Suriano defeated No. 1 seed Daton Fix (Oklahoma State) in the 133-pound final, using a takedown in overtime to seal the victory.
