PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Sophomore
Terka Grusova was named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week and teammate
Sofia Chichaikina is the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the second-straight week, it was announced Wednesday by the conference office.
Grusova won a trio of events to help lead Rutgers to a 163-137 victory over in-state rival Princeton last Friday. The sophomore Scarlet Knight kicked off the meet with the opening leg of the winning 400 medley relay team and then swept the backstroke events touching the wall in first in 53.95 in the 100 back and 1:58.44 in the 200 back. Grusova was also the runner-up in the 200 IM in 2:01.40, which is the fifth fastest time in the Big Ten.
Chichaikina won two individual events and a pair of relays, which included a new Rutgers Aquatics Center Pool record. The first-year Scarlet Knight was a part of the 200 free relay squad that set a new home pool record in 1:31.75, a mark that was a mere .15 seconds off the school record. The relay team's time is also second in the Big Ten and 12th nationally. Additionally, Chichaikina placed first with 400 medley relay squad (3:42.95) and won the 200 fly (1:59.79) and 100 free (49.85).
The Rutgers women's swimming & diving team returns to the water to host the Rutgers Invitational at the Rutgers Aquatics Center on Dec. 4-7.Â
