STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – No. 16 Rutgers field hockey (10-7, 4-4 Big Ten) fell 3-1 to No. 14 Northwestern (13-6, 5-3 Big Ten) on Thursday evening.

Shots were 13-12 in favor of Northwestern. The Scarlet Knights had the advantage in penalty corners, 12-5.Â
Northwestern scored first, just four minutes into the game. The Wildcats capitalized on a turnover, and their leading scorer Bente Baekers put the ball home. That 1-0 margin stayed until halftime. In the opening frame, Rutgers earned four corners and had five shots, while goalkeeper
Gianna Glatz made six saves.Â
To start the second half, the Wildcats added two quick goals. Baekers added her second of the game just 31 seconds in, then added another a minute later for a 3-0 lead.Â
At the end of the third quarter, Rutgers got a goal back.
Tayla Parkes inserted a penalty corner, and
Alanna Gollotto sent a pass to
Austyn Cuneo. The redshirt senior fired a shot home from just inside the circle for the first Scarlet Knight tally of the day. However, that would end the scoring and RU fell by the 3-1 margin.Â
- With 53 points in her Rutgers career, Cuneo moved into sole possession of 12th place on Rutgers' all-time leaderboard.Â
