2019 GMU Patriots Open Results

FAIRFAX, Va. – Robert Kanniard (2nd, 157-unattached), Shane Metzler (3rd, 133-unattached) and Alex Esposito (HWT) all placed to highlight action for Rutgers wrestling at the 2019 George Mason University Patriots Open over the weekend on Saturday in Fairfax, Virginia. In total, nine members of the program competed at the all-day tournament at the George Mason Field House.
Kanniard rattled off four consecutive victories, including a pin in his semifinal bout against Luke Weiland (Army) to reach the 157-pound title bout. Metzler picked up three victories to advance to the semifinals at 133 pounds, and used a 10-2 major decision over Trent Svingala (Columbia) to secured third in his weight class, while Esposito went 3-2 with two pins to finish sixth at heavyweight.
