Kieran Mullins Named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week
Feb 12 | Men's Lacrosse
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Kieran Mullins, a junior attackman on No. 8/9 Rutgers men's lacrosse, was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. Mullins led the Scarlet Knights with six goals and three assists for nine points in a 19-15 win at St. John's on Saturday, as RU improved to 2-0 on the season.
"I think we played well together as a team against St. John's," Mullins said. "We were clicking as an offense. I think my success is just a testament to my teammates, it's not just an individual effort."
A team captain, Mullins had three goals and two assists in the final 10 minutes of the game as the Scarlet Knights closed out the victory with seven straight goals. Mullins had the highest point total in a game for any Division I player last week, and he leads the Big Ten with 4.5 goals-per-game. He is also second in points (14) and assists (5).
Mullins, who was previously named National Player of the Week by Warrior/US Lacrosse, earns his sixth career Big Ten weekly award. It is the third time he has won Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, and he also was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week three times in 2017.
This is the third Big Ten Weekly Award that has been won by a Rutgers' player so far this season. Kyle Pless (Defense) and Connor Harryman (Co-Specialist) earned Big Ten Awards last season.
The No. 8/9 Scarlet Knights return home Saturday to host No.19 Army at 12 p.m. Tickets for the 2019 season are on sale through the Rutgers Ticket Office online or by calling 1-866-445-GORU (4678).
