Bridgett Claims Bronze in Long Jump on Day One of Big Ten Indoor Championships

Brown advances to 400m final to defend his three-consecutive titles
ANN ARBOR, MICH. – Rutgers men's track and field opened its weekend at the 2019 Big Ten Indoor Championship, hosted by the University of Michigan on Friday.
Freshman A'Nan Bridgett highlighted day one for the Scarlet Knights, placing third in the long jump with a mark of 7.27m (23' 10.25").
Additionally, senior Izaiah Brown advanced to the finals of the 200m and 400m events, setting out to defend his title in the latter. Sophomore Taj Burgess will join Brown in the 400m finals as well.
TRACK EVENTS
Brown advanced to the finals of the 400m, earning the chance to defend his title and collect his fourth straight gold medal in the event. Brown also advanced in the 200m, marking his third trip to the event final.
Brown clocked a time of 47.72 in the 400m to finish second in heat three and a mark of 20.99 in the 200m to finish first in heat six.
Also in the 400m, Burgess posted a time of 47.79 to cross the line first in heat five. It marks his second straight final, having finished fifth in his debut last season.
Freshman Antonio Tarantino made his conference championship debut, registering a mark of 21.67 to finish second in the first heat.
In the 800m preliminaries, senior Edward Zaleck (1:54.56), and juniors Sean Martinek (1:54.79) and Jason Schweizer (1:55.77), represented RU in the event. Senior Sterling Pierce clocked a time of 7.29 in the 60m prelims and a mark of 21.75 in the 200m prelims.
In the 3000m final, Rutgers was represented by senior Conor Murphy (8:37.32) and sophomore Patrick Walsh (8:55.30)
The distance medley relay team consisting of sophomore Billy Hill, sophomore Edwyn Pierre, and juniors Jared Skalski and Cole Pschunder posted at time of 9:55.87 to place eighth in the race. It marks the first time the Scarlet Knights have earned a podium finish in the event at Big Ten's.
FIELD EVENTS
In his debut at the championships, Bridgett claimed a bronze medal in the long jump. He becomes the second Scarlet Knight to earn a Big Ten medal in the indoor event, joining Corey Crawford who collected a gold medal in 2016.
Junior Perry Christie finished fourth in the high jump with a result of 2.13m (6' 11.75). Christie was just shy of the second and third place mark of 2.16m.
Senior Jairus Paul and sophomore Tobi Tella competed in the long jump and senior Jordan Lorenzo competed in the high jump to start off their weekend's.
