Clarke, Sobieski Advances To Finals on Day One of B1G Track & Field Championships

Oniesha Clarke Makes Second-Straight Appearance in 60m Finals; Senior Jenna Sobieski To Competes in 800m Finals
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Two Scarlet Knights have advanced to finals racing of the 2019 Big Ten Indoor Championship on Friday. Senior Oniesha Clarke will be making her second 60m finals appearance, while senior Jenna Sobieski qualified for the finals of the 800m.
Clarke captured a season-best 7.48 to place sixth in the 60m preliminaries and advance to Saturday's finals which start at 1:45 p.m. She topped her previous top time of the season from her runner-up finish at this Metropolitan Indoor Championships by .12 seconds.
The Waterbury, Connecticut native will be making her second Big Ten Indoor Championship 60m finals appearance. A year ago, Clarke took fourth in the 60m finals in 7.44, after posting a PR of 7.43 in preliminaries. Her preliminary time was also the third fastest time in the Rutgers record book.
Sobieski took seventh in the preliminaries of the 800m with a new PR of 2:08.10 and will race in Saturday's finals at 3:05 p.m. The senior Scarlet Knight bested her previous PR of 2:10.28 set in an eighth place finish at the Terrier Classic hosted by Boston University in late January.
The Old Bridge, New Jersey will be taking to the start line in her first Big Ten finals race. Last season, Sobieski finished 14th in the event.
Several other Scarlet Knights picked up PRs in their conference championship appearances. Junior Stephanie Mauer logged a new personal best of 10:15.38 in the 3000m, surpassing her previous top effort of 10:18.66 set at the Metropolitan Indoor Championships. Freshman Iyanla Kollock clocked in at 7.62 in the 60m resetting her previous best of 7.69 set at the Valentine's Invitational.
Day two action of the Big Ten Indoor Championships kicks off on Saturday at 10 a.m. will live streaming available from FloTrack.
